After working for Corporations for 35+ years, I took a step back and viewed the bigger picture; I could not ignore what I saw. Realizing that there is more than one way to live life, I embraced new beginnings that included my passion to help others to provide exceptional real estate services to all clients.
What if I didn’t go back? The gears in my head started spinning as I considered putting my decades-long corporate career behind me to become a REALTOR®. For years, I dedicated my all-in attitude to large corporations and working 60+ hour weeks, thinking it was the only way. Then when I took a step back, I reconsidered the narrative I had lived by my entire life.
“Providing an Exceptional Real Estate Advantage to Our Clients!”
I started my business career at a large law firm and over the years, I worked my way up through different companies, including a Management Team role as Vice President of Information Technology and Global Services for a Telecom company. That global services bit had a nice benefit as I got to travel to twenty different countries during my last 17 years in corporate IT!
I grew with the evolving industry and being result-driven and analytical kept me in management roles throughout my career that enabled me to mentor others and sharing my passion for Information Technology. While Information Technology was my first career choice, real estate was always a strong second and was in the back of my mind for years. While taking a step back and reconsidering my future, I got my real estate license to sell my own home, and that really got the gears in motion.
Like many, I grew up believing I needed a corporate job to secure insurance, a stable paycheck, and everything else needed for the unofficial adulthood checklist. Once recognizing the bigger picture, I realized there were opportunities beyond what I originally imagined. Why would I go back to the corporate world? I could work for myself! Have my name on the door to the office! I made up my mind and I was all in on real estate.
While there was a steep learning curve to joining a new industry, I quickly adapted to the use of databases, digital applications, and became proficient and efficient in navigating the real estate industry. My background served me well! After my fourth year at Berkshire Hathaway PenFed Realty, I was the #1 producing agent. This was a major milestone early in my real estate career and I knew this was my destiny. Being a Professional Realtor, I do not consider my career as a job, but a career that I love as it has so many personal rewards while I get to work directly with clients in selling and/or purchasing one of the largest assets of their lives.
My family is my world. I recognize the same family bonds in my clients. When I say I get to work with clients, I truly mean that. We are working towards a goal, and I know how intimidating real estate can be, and aim to alleviate the stress associated with real estate transactions, while also educating my clients to eliminate the fear of the unknown.
Since 2017, I have embraced every part of real estate that I once loved about corporate IT including mentoring. I established my team, the Mark Laing Realty Group powered by Keller Williams Realty, to educate and encourage other agents who share the same values as me. Respect, honesty and being present—or all in—are our core values. Through real estate, I have discovered renewed passion, balance, and clarity.
Embracing a different way to live my life illustrated to me how different we all are. In fact, my favorite part of being a REALTOR® is meeting so many different people on their real estate journey. Whenever I am not
working, I enjoy riding horses, vacationing in the Caribbean, and quality time with Family & Friends.
During my 35 years in the business world, I have learned many skills that I have carried with me into my real estate career. Such skills include building business relationships, negotiations, contracts, print and social media marketing, networking, project management and getting the job done in a professional and efficient manner.
As a REALTOR®, I focus on my client’s real estate needs to exceed their expectations and getting their real estate transaction to settlement in a timely and thorough manner. As an advisor, I educate my clients on the various facets of selling and purchasing real estate, online access to client’s project statuses, follow up, Q&A, organize necessary inspections, and facilitate other real estate activities.
I have in-depth experience in selling both residential and commercial real estate and focus on Single Family Homes, Luxury Homes, Town Homes, Condominiums, Land, and Equestrian & Farm properties.
I am also a licensed REALTOR® in Virginia & Florida! Whatever you are looking for, I am excited to help you find it and continue supporting your journey as your forever REALTOR®.
Sincerely,
Mark Laing
